Let's explore what's new in Ghost. The new beta for additional payment methods lets you accept payments through CashApp, iDEAL, WeChat, and more. Internal linking has been simplified, allowing you to link to old posts directly from the editor. Plus, a new setting for newsletters lets you use post excerpts as subtitles.

Additional payment methods (beta)

By default, Ghost supports payments from members via Credit Card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Now, with the Additional Payment Methods (beta), you can offer options like CashApp, iDEAL, WeChat, Revolut, AmazonPay, Direct Debit, ACH, and other Stripe-supported methods.

Offering diverse payment methods is crucial because different regions prefer different systems. For example, while credit cards are common in the US, iDEAL is preferred in the Netherlands, and AliPay and WeChat Pay dominate in China. Supporting familiar payment methods increases conversion rates. This beta feature, tested by over 300 publishers, is now ready for broader use. A guide is available to help you set up these additional payment methods in Ghost and Stripe.

Internal linking

Previously, linking to an old post in Ghost required opening a new tab, finding the post on your website, copying the URL, and pasting it into the editor. Users found this process cumbersome and disruptive.

Now, you can search for and link to old posts directly within the Ghost editor, including pages, tags, and authors, reducing context switches and maintaining your writing flow. Simply hit @ and start typing to quickly find and add a link. This feature has received overwhelmingly positive feedback for making writing faster and less interrupted.

Subtitles in newsletters

Ghost themes often use the excerpt field as a subtitle on posts. To address publisher feedback, Ghost now offers an optional setting in the newsletter template to include the post excerpt, making it easy for newsletters to match the site’s design. Users can enable this feature by navigating to Settings, then Newsletters, and toggling on the “Post excerpt” field under Design.

Ghost is also testing new ways to customize the editor based on individual writing preferences, starting with adding the excerpt inline as a subtitle. This beta feature can be tried by going to Settings, then Labs, and toggling it on. These updates aim to enhance content presentation across websites and newsletters.
