As you may have noticed, the next major version of Ghost has arrived, and the 6.0 release is full of new features, upgrades and improvements. Let's dive in.
What's new in Ghost 6.0?
The two main new features in Ghost 6.0 are the addition of the social web and a new analytics system:
- Social web — A new way to connect with your audience and share your content across social media. People can discover, follow, like and reply to your posts from any supported social web client - including Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Flipboard, Ghost, WordPress, and many more.
- Ghost analytics — A powerful, first-party, cookie-free data platform, giving you a new way to track your content and see how it's performing. This feature is powered by Tinybird.
Beyond these two main features, there are a number of other new features and improvements, including:
- Translations - Automatic translations for portal, newsletters, search, and comments in over 60 different languages.
- Newsletters - Lots of new features for newsletters like new design settings, content cards, built-in spam protection, audience feedback, and more.
- Payments - Improved payment experience with support for 135 currencies, free trials, more payment methods like Apple Pay, Google Pay, CashApp and iDEAL, as well as automatic sales tax, and support for one-time payments with tips and donations.
- Typography - Custom typography settings for headings and body text.
- Bulk actions - Bulk actions for updating multiple posts at once, or duplicating them.
- Content editor - Lots of improvements to the content editor, with a more intuitive, powerful writing experience, including edit history, internal linking, an inline image editor, and better support for landing pages with header cards and signup cards.
- Signup forms - Embeddable signup forms help grow your audience from anywhere on the web, and extra support for custom signup terms.
- Staff social links - Support for more staff social links to connect with followers across other networks.
There's even more new features and improvements, but these are the main ones that stand out.
Breaking changes in Ghost 6.0
Most changes in Ghost 6.0 are non-breaking cleanup, with the most notable exception being the removal of ?limit=all
support from all API endpoints.
- limit="all" - To avoid performance issues, the
?limit=all
parameter has been removed from all API endpoints. Instead, the maximum number of results returned is now 100. In cases where you need to fetch more than 100 items, pagination should be used. - Supported Node versions - Ghost 6.0 is only compatible with Node.js v22. Support for both Node.js v18 (EOL) and Node.js v20 have been dropped
- Supported databases - MySQL 8 remains the only supported database for both development and production environments. SQLite3 is supported only in development environments. With Node.js v22, sqlite3 requires python setup tools to install correctly.
